The modeling industry is a tough nut to crack, especially when you are attending a casting call. What’s even worse is your first audition. Before you even leave for the audition, questions upon questions are circling through one’s head,
“Should I wear my hair up or down?”
“Should I wear jeans or a dress, heels or flats, make-up or no make-up, do I need a hat?”
By the time you are ready to leave, half of your wardrobe has probably transformed into an enormous heap of clothes on your bedroom floor. Once you’re out of your house and you’ve made it to your car, the fear sets in. Your stomach turns. The ever so familiar butterflies circle in your stomach.
“Do I look okay?
“Should I have worn that other outfit?”
“Should I have left my hair down?”
By that time you feel like you’ve done more damage just by thinking so much!
Well thankfully, you read this first and had none of that uncertainty, right?
Ladies, here’s a tip! Wear your hair natural and down. Keep the make-up light to natural. Wear form fitted jeans, a solid color fitted top that looks flattering or your body, and do not forget the stilettos. If you are more comfortable in flats, at least bring the heels! Remember, you are competing against other talented individuals who are going for the same job you are. Therefore you appearance is the first thing clients will see. Make sure it is cleaned up! And remember, dressing age appropriate is much better and safer than risking it.
Gentlemen, it’s even more simple than that! Wear form fitted jeans, clean shoes not boots or flip flops, and a solid color fitted crew neck or V-neck t-shirt will work perfectly fine. As long as you look cleaned up, and your shoes and clothes are not old and worn out, you will be just fine. And no hats! Those cover your face. You want to look professional, not like a thug.
And don’t forget! if you have comp cards or a portfolio book make sure you bring both with you!
Best of luck! You got this!
