Open Casting Call For HBO Comedy Series Videosyncrasy From Director and Producer David Fincher

Who is David Fincher

David Fincher is once again at the epicenter of the movie universe with critically acclaimed Mystery/Drama film Gone Girl starring Ben Affleck. Gone Girl received many accolades including a Best Actress nomination for former Bond Girl, Rosamund Pike. Fincher was also director behind The Social Network, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Se7en.  Now Fincher is working on taking us down memory lane with a new TV show set in the opulent yet budding world of the 1980’s music-video industry.

The director of Zodiac and The Game is now working on a new half-hour comedy for HBO focusing on the 80’s Music-Video industry (as previously reported by Deadline).  There is no one more qualified than Fincher for this project. Before he was a critically acclaimed film director, Fincher was a highly sought-after music video director. He was the creator behind some of music videos most brilliant videos from supermodel slo-mos to those amazing glamour shots of some of the world’s biggest musical artists.

David Fincher’s Music Video Accolades

He lent his brilliance to creating such music videos like “We Don’t Have to Take Our Clothes Off” by Jermaine Steward in 1986; “(It’s Just) The Way That You Love Me” by Paula Abdul in 1988 led to Fincher and Abdul collaborating on four more music videos from Abdul’s ‘Forever Your Girl’ Album; “Shattered Dreams” by Johnny Hates Jazz in 1988; “Roll With It” by Steve Winwood; “Englishman in New York” by Sting in 1987; “Love Is Strong” by the Rolling Stones in 1994, a video that rightfully earned Fincher his first Best Music Video Grammy; “Oh Father” by Madonna in1989 where Fincher used one of Madonna’s childhood traumas and created a haunting and beautiful piece of art; “Bad Girl” by Madonna; “Who Is It?” by Michael Jackson; “Express Yourself” by Madonna; “Suit & Tie” by Justin Timberlake; The most remembered of Fincher’s music videos is of course the brilliant perfection of Madonna’s “Vogue” in 1990.

Videosyncrasy Synopsis

With such an amazing resume in music television Fincher has earned the credibility to do this concept justice. According to Deadline the show is set in 1983 Los Angeles, and that fact alone makes for an already intriguing television show, and revolves around a wide-eyed guy who drops out of college and drives to Hollywood with dreams of directing a sci-fi epic. Instead Bobby lands a job as a P.A. for a company making music videos. The series will focus on the rapidly growing music-video business at the time when MTV was born.

This hopefully will lead into some insight or at the very least a partial explanation as to what exactly is happening in several of Fincher’s videos. For instance “Say You Will,” Foreigner (1987) which features a myriad of close-ups, shifting-shadows, and other aesthetics that virtually makes no sense. “We Don’t Have To Take Our Clothes Off,” Jermaine Stewart (1986) which features trumpets, tailcoats (Say What) and well other scenarios that leave you wondering what is actually going on. Then there’s Jody Watley’s “Most Of All” which literally makes no sense, cannot even begin to explain what the many moving parts have to do with each other. There’s a trumpet, sailors, a have naked man in a bed, Jody laying on the beach (I think) and then her sitting on a chair, a hand appears mysteriously out of nowhere and by the end I am thoroughly confused. There are so many questions and hopefully Fincher’s new HBO series, Videosyncrasy, will at the very least answer them.

  6. Hello, kind Sir. I would have to check with Jerome (we call him Mo-Genius in the Hood), he is funny as Hell. We ( Jerome and I were were class clowns in high school, we were in high school in the 80’s. We are Both retired from our jobs, so we don’t have anything to do but act a fool! Note: we are Detroit Public School Graduates. We are both Black males in our early 50’s, Jerome is heavy-set and has a dark complexion. Jerome’s appearance resembles a broke version of the late Notorious B.I G, Biggie Smalls, Christopher Wallace. Several Fine, as in beautiful women have told me that I look like a crack head under sized, crooked toothed version of the rapper Warren G (Warren Griffin the third). We have no Show Business experience, but we are willing to learn. We have a lot of time on our hands to get our stuff together, so we can put on a good show for you, Mr. Big Time Movie Producer. P.S.: I am not willing to have Gay sex to blow up, I heard that a lot of Hollywood Power Brokers types are that Way. I am not willing to do anything to have great success, I can only speak for my self. Well good day or evening to you dear kind sir and I hope to here from you soon. I hope you consider Us, if not God Bless and Break a Leg with your new Show.
